Pawlenty On Yesterday's Appointments

This is a -email sent out by Gov. Pawlenty (via Pawlenty for Governor) yesterday. He outlines the qualifications of his two appointments to the Minnesota Supreme Court.

Dear Fellow Minnesotan,

Today I am appointing Justice Russell Anderson to be the new chief justice of the Minnesota Supreme Court.

Justice Anderson was first appointed to the trial court bench by Governor Al Quie in 1983. Since that time he has been a strong and steady hand for justice and the rule of law in Minnesota.

Justice Anderson was born and raised in Bemidji, educated at St. Olaf and the University of Minnesota and served our country in the Navy JAG corps.

He embodies what Minnesotans would expect from their top judicial official. His strong work ethic, even temperment and belief in the rule of law will make him an excellent chief justice for Minnesota.

This appointment creates an opening for associate justice, to which I am appointing Judge Lorie Gildea.

Judge Gildea is one of the brightest legal minds in our state. She graduated from the University of Minnesota - Morris with a perfect 4.0 GPA and did so in only three years. She went on to Georgetown University Law School where she graduated with high honors.

Her legal career has included time in private practice as well as being a prosecutor. She is currently a Hennepin County District Judge.

I am confident that these two justices share my belief that the job of a judge is to interpret and enforce the law, not to legislate from the bench.
Justices Anderson and Gildea will serve us well.

Sincerely,
Tim Pawlenty
