Hatch Campaign Suffers Another Setback

Mike Hatch, who has flaunted his Duluth upbringing since he first began running for governor in 1990, lost out on a few Duluth-area endorsements this weekend.

Who did the Iron Rangers endorse? None other than Kelly Doran.

I bet Hatch is asking how this happened.

MDE is also reporting that one State Senator who initally backed Hatch is one of those who is backing Doran.

OK. Only a Twin Cities know-it-all, know nothing would call Duluth as being part of the Range.

Aside from that, you actually have tripped across some truth here. I'll help.

The article listed that following as supporting Doran: Sens. Tom Bakk of Cook, Yvonne Prettner Solon of Duluth and Tom Saxhaug of Grand Rapids, as well as Rep. Tom Huntley of Duluth, Mountain Iron Mayor Gary Skalko and Buhl Mayor Craig Pulford.

Of that list the only Rangers are the Mayors and Bakk. No, Grand Rapids is not the Range either. The west Raneg begins just outside of G-R to the East and stretch to Cloquet.
So, Hatch, a Duluth native failed to gain the support of the Duluth state Senator (who's husband Sam, was the longest serving rep. he was there when Hatch was living in Duluth) and the senior state Rep.

However, the Range reps, Rukavinia, Sertich, Dille, Solberg and Sen Tomassoni are not listed.

Remember, Hatch a Duluth native, took on the only Iron Range Governor we had, Rudy Perpich. It was not forgiven by many DFLers because Hatch was the Commerce Commissioner at the time- appointed by Perpich.

So, Hatch is lucky to get any Rangers support, unless they are reading the Republican blogs and noticing how much energy they are putting into discrediting Hatch.
