Dayton on the Senate

Sen. Mark Dayton was profiled in today's St. Cloud Times. It is a very interesting read. I'll give you some highlights.

He said the Republican caucus is "more egalitarian" than the Democratic caucus in terms of leadership opportunities, and notes that Minnesota's freshman Republican Sen. Norm Coleman chairs two subcommittees while he heads none. (Source: St. Cloud Times, Nov. 28, 2005)

"He's eccentric," said Mark Drake, a spokesman for the Minnesota Republican Party. "He was badly damaged by his decision to shut down his office. He's never established himself within the Senate." (Source: St. Cloud Times, Nov. 28, 2005)

Dayton has one of the Senate's most liberal voting records, receiving a 91 percent life rating from the liberal group Americans For Democratic Action. That compares to the group's 90 percent life rating for Democratic Sen. Ted Kennedy of Massachusetts. (Source: St. Cloud Times, Nov. 28, 2005)
