Pawlenty orders special elections

Not to be confused with a special session.

ST. PAUL (AP) - Gov. Tim Pawlenty has ordered a special election to fill two Senate seats being vacated by Republicans.

Sen. David Gaither, of Plymouth, was tapped last month to be Pawlenty's new chief of staff. And Sen. Mark Ourada, of Buffalo, is leaving the Senate to work for an association of coal, rail and energy companies in the Washington, D.C. area.

This was Ourada's 11th year in the Senate. Gaither was elected to the Senate in 2002. The special election to fill their seats will be held Tuesday, Nov. 22.
If necessary, a special primary will be held on Nov. 1.
